May come back next winter when we have saved enough to do some of the touristy things that abound in the area.
We moved on to our first overnight stop at Cockburn rest area where it blew a gale. We were told by a couple heading the other way it would be like this all the way to the west but fortunately it seemed to die down after a day or so.
We drove through some interesting country for the next hundred or so ks. Very like the Pebbles we had seen in NT. We stopped in Doon Doon for a quick break, also for Steve to fill his two gas bottles as there was no gas to be had at all in Kununurra. From there we drove through more beautiful scenery including mesas, jumpups, Pebbles, Marbles and Boab Trees.
Arrived at Leycesters rest area and found a really nice spot so decided to stay for 3 days. This place has been named in honour of a young lad killed in a car accident thereabouts.
The river was beautiful walking along the old bridge which is now blocked off to traffic but great for a stroll. Large boulders making small ponds with plenty of little fish swimming around. Large areas of sandy beaches along the side which would be completely covered in times of floods.
Just seeing the diversity in this outback country is truly amazing. The changes as we drive along are to be remembered and nothing how I imagined it at all.
How is this for a toilet, made of concrete, no seat or lid. No door either. |
Some unusual plant findings I haven't seen before. |
Cattle walking through the campgrounds. |
