Cleve would have to be one of the neatest towns around, in all ways. To hop out of your car and walk along the street, What's that sound?? Why are people talking when there is no one there?? Well, it's like this. They have radio speakers attached to the power poles along the footpaths. So you are listening to the radio while you wander. How good is that??
Then you find the op shop. I have never in all my days of op shopping seen one so tidy. All sections are labelled with a hanging sign above. All neatly displayed and huge varieties of stock. They also have the public toilets in the same building, well set out with all the trimmings including a relaxing chair in the room, maybe for a mum to feed baby or us oldies to have a rest before spending some more money. They certainly do cater to the shopper, beautiful smellies in there too, hand wash and lotions.
Then on the Bakery, I was gobsmacked when I ordered cappuccino and what I call a fruit twister, not sure what they called it now. A pastry 3 times the size as a Danish, with fruits custards and icing all over after it has been twisted into something resembling a plait. No wonder I put on so much wait on this trip.
Can't forget one of the best camps around at the Yeldulknie Weir, for a donation there are flushing toilets and drinking water. Rubbish Bins and a gas BBQ.
I spoke to one of the men who had helped put it all together a few years ago, when I was in town on the day I was leaving. They volunteer their time to go out and keep it tidy and clean, his turn is Wednesdays. A good amount of space, with plenty of trees and a nice walk up to the weir to seethe water on the other side. This lovely man told me they originally set it up for the locals to visit but somehow it found it's way into Camps Australia Wide book and now they have travellers from everywhere coming to stay. We stayed 4 nights as it covered the weekend and needed to shop in Cleve on the Monday. The weir is 5 ks out of Cleve on the road to Cowell.
