Mesas and Hamilton Ruins. 7th

After leaving Middleton Hotel we headed to Hamilton Ruins going through the mesas country, better known as the jump-ups.
I found this next stretch very spiritual, standing in one spot and looking around in a circle we were completely surrounded by huge hills with strange shapes on top. Too many to count, they were as far as the eye could see in all directions.
This area is called the Diamantina Catchment. When the rains come in the wet season this is where the water flows on it's way down to Lake Eyre. This whole area we are travelling in at this time would be under water.
Some photos from the area. The two people walking along the top were Billeee and Jules who had just climbed to the top of the rock in the first photo. Too much for me, I only got to the first lookout.

From there we travelled to the Hamilton Ruins where we stayed the night. All that was left of The Hamilton Hotel was the stone chimney but they had made the site into a great stop over with Toilets, Shower, Undercover seating and the best drinking water I have tasted in  a while, straight from the artesian basin.

Also one of the stages for the Cobb & Co stagecoach  as you can see.
